Foxwood Vineyards is showcasing its first range of wines released for the very first time at the Foxwood Spring Festival.
During the Festival, Foxwood Vineyards wines are served without any additional charge at our food and wine pairings (see Gourmet for a full list of menus and dates). Advance bookings essential.
The first wines being launched from the Foxwood Vineyards stable are:
CHENIN BLANC (2012 Vintage):
A beautiful pale straw colour; with honey, apricot and pineapple flavours on the nose. Careful integration of the use of oak barrels balanced by a crisp acidity gives the wine a long, fresh finish on the palate.
SHIRAZ (2011 Vintage):
A deep dark colour; with black pepper, liquorice, violets and hints of vanilla on the nose. The ripe black fruit follows on the palate with velvety tannins making it perfect to enjoy now as well as giving it great maturation potential.

Foxwood Vineyards is a partnership that has been formed between renowned winemaker, Matthew Krone, and the Foxwood House owners, Pieter de Vos and Jan Groenewald.
Matthew is the scion of an iconic Cape wine family, and in joining forces with Foxwood, a historic alliance between the Krone and de Vos families has been renewed; Matthew and Pieter are direct descendants of the founders of the old renowned Cape firm of DeVosKrone&Co dating back to 1923.
The partners of Foxwood Vineyards are committed to producing only the best quality South African wines, and
Winemaker Matthew Krone adds: “These wines are an expression of my passion and pleasure. Every step of the production process was done with the intent of producing only the best quality, and no compromising allowed. The results have been spectacular. My family winemaking heritage of 300 years, and our dreams for the future, guarantees the quality of our wines.”
History
In 1923, Petrus Johannes (Pieter) de Vos and Nicolas Charles (Cope) Krone started a company called DeVosKrone&Co, which grew to be one of the most successful businesses of its time. 90 Years later, the grandson of Petrus Johannes (Pieter) and great-grandson of Nicolas Charles (Matthew) joined forces to once again “bring a little bit of history back to life”.
Matthew Krone is the 12th generation winemaker from the renowned Krone winemaking family. His late grandfather (N.C.Krone) and father (Nicky Krone) have been credited with being two of the greatest pioneers in the South African wine industry, and their winemaking practices and techniques influenced winemaking both in South Africa and internationally. Matthew honed his winemaking skills under both of them, and their passion and integrity is a part of his winemaking philosophy.
